Why drink kombucha?

It tastes delicious and has incredible health benefits!

Where did the name come from?

The name was derived from the original word kombucha as it’s pronounced kom-boo-cha and the word “chi” in Chinese means energy flow or life force which is the ethos behind the drink and brand.  The three lines are inspired by the ancient Chinese roots of kombucha, and also depict the Chinese character for “Chi” found in the earliest depiction of the word, inscribed on oracle bones more than 2,000 years ago which is also when kombucha is first thought to have been created.

What is the shelf life?

Although kombucha doesn't actually expire, we still put a "best before" label on Boo Chi, because we can't guarantee it will have the same flavour or alcohol content as the day it was bottled.

Does the product need to be refrigerated?

Yes. If it is not refrigerated, the content will become very vinegary and continue to ferment.  If your bottle of Boo Chi has been left out and is warm it is recommended that you serve it over ice.

Why Brown Glass Bottles?

Amber glass bottles provide excellent UV protection as sunlight can actually damage the Kombucha culture.  Also given the qualities of glass, no harmful chemicals can leach into the product. DO NOT DRINK KOMBUCHA FROM/IN PLASTIC - if it is in plastic it’s highly likely to have been pasturised.

Is the product gluten free and vegan?

Yes

Can you shake Boo Chi?

It’s best that you don’t shake a sealed bottle of Boo Chi as the drink is raw and live and could potentially explode if shaken vigorously.

What is the amount of alcohol in a bottle of Boo Chi kombucha?

Boo Chi is bottled at less than 0.3% abv. However, it continues to ferment a little in the bottle but will never go over 0.5%, as long as it's kept in the refrigerator.

How much caffeine is in Boo Chi?

There is about 2-3mg of caffeine in Boo Chi kombucha.  If this means nothing to you as an example a cup of coffee has 40mg and a can of diet coke has 42mg.

What do you mean by “live” and “active ingredients”?

Boo Chi is made up of live cultures and these can often be seen as “the floaty bits” in the drink.  Because it's naturally fermented with a living colony of bacteria and yeast, kombucha is a probiotic beverage. This has a myriad of benefits such as improved digestion, fighting candida (harmful yeast) overgrowth, mental clarity, and mood stability. So drink up the "bits" or if you don’t like the texture please just sieve them out!

Is kombucha safe for pregnant woman, if you’re breastfeeding or if you’re a child?

Because Boo Chi is unpasteurised it’s recommended that you seek GP advice before drinking if pregnant or breastfeeding. Not recommended for children under 12.

Will Boo Chi carry on fermenting?

Yes it will continue to ferment very slowly over time so you might find bits or a small baby scoby floating in your Boo Chi.  This is the good stuff so either drink it up or if you don’t like the texture feel free to sieve it out.

Can Boo Chi be combined with alcohol?

Most definitely! We would recommend it and love it with tequila, vodka & gin but it goes well with most spirits and makes a excellent cocktail or mocktail!
